Although the craft of making figurines out of salt dough has been around for years, I've just recently discovered it for myself.
Whilst doing my daily scan through Pinterest, I came across these beautiful hand made fairy doors, and what I found most attractive about these little creations was that they were made from everyday, household ingredients that could be found in everyone's cupboard.
I have tried and tested many recipes but this one so far seems the best.
What you'll need:
· 2 cups of all purpose flour
· 1 cup of salt
· 3/4 cup of water
· 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
Step 1 Add all of the above ingredients into a large bowl and stir until all lumps have been removed. It should become a doughy consistency. If you think the dough is too wet then add a small amount of flour and mix through again.
Step 2: Put the dough on a flat work surface and knead until smooth.
Step 3: Make shapes by moulding by hand or using cookie cutters. Make whatever your heart desires!
Step 4: Place in an oven at 50 degrees Celsius for 30 mins. Depending on the size and thickness of your dough, you can leave it in the oven for longer and increase to 100 degrees Celsius.
When the dough has set it can then be painted. Ive found acrylic paints work best for this craft and remember to sand down any rough edges to give your project a smooth finish!
